Volunteering

Living sustainably and restoring/cultivating long since abandoned land is an undertaking which requires a lot of man hours and a lot of dedication to a principle.

Los Gázquez is very keen to accept volunteers. If working at an 'eco-guest house' and farm high in the mountains of Spain appeals, then we would be very interested to hear from you. In return we can offer bed and board with the family, fresh air and sunshine, wildlife galore, great work experience and the opportunity to learn some new skills and maybe impart some too

• 'Bone Tree Project'
  Maintenance and cultivation (see above)
• Reed bed maintenance
  Maintenance and cultivation
• Oak conservation
  Maintenance and conservation of native species of oak trees
• Olive cultivation
  Establishing new olive groves, maintaining existing trees and restoring ancient olives back into cultivation
• Terrace restoration
  Restoring the supporting walls of ancient terraces
• Combating soil erosion
  Soil erosion is a huge problem here that requires 'long term' physical and biological solutions
• Wood harvesting
  Probably one of the largest tasks at Los Gázquez is the gathering of wood for the house whilst balancing ecology systems that require 'dead wood' habitat
• Grey water reclamation system maintenance
  Balancing and maintaining the grey water tree irrigation system
• Rainwater harvesting maintenance
  This is a complicated system that requires daily maintenance to ensure water quality and efficiency
• Drought tolerant plant cultivation
  Seed collecting and 'cuttings' in an effort to encourage native species of plant varieties in a year round activity
• Organic edible garden maintenance
